Meredith C. called us from Carroll Street on a Sunday night. She had lived in the garden-level of the same brownstone for six years and had never once got the place to feel finished. She would clean all Saturday, and by Monday there was a grey film back on the window sills and a grit on the floor that came up on bare feet. She thought she was doing something wrong. She was not. She lived under a hundred-and-thirty-year-old building with steam heat, single-glazed sash windows on a bus route, and a parlour floor above her shedding fine plaster dust through the joists every time somebody walked across it.

That is a Park Slope problem, not a Meredith problem. We cleaned her place on a Thursday, did the radiator fins with a brush before anything else, sealed and wiped the sash channels, and went top to bottom instead of room to room. She texted eleven days later to say the sills were still clean. Its the order of work that fixes that, not the amount of scrubbing, and it is the single most common thing people on these blocks call us about after they have already tried to fix it themselves.

We are Green Hands Cleaning Services Corp, based at 22-16 79th Street in East Elmhurst, and we have been cleaning homes across Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan since 2015. If you are looking for the best cleaning services in Park Slope, this page is the honest version: what we actually do in a slope brownstone, what it costs, which service fits which situation, and the things about this particular neighborhood that change how a clean has to be done. No sales pitch you have to decode.

Park Slope is not one kind of home. Between Prospect Park West and Fourth Avenue you have four completely different cleaning problems stacked into twenty blocks. The limestone and brownstone row houses east of Seventh have original woodwork, deep window reveals and floors that hate a wet mop. The pre-war walk-ups around Fifth have radiators under every window and painted-shut sashes that trap dust in the track. The newer Fourth Avenue towers have sealed glass, HVAC vents and floor-to-ceiling windows that show every single mark. And the garden apartments below all of them get whatever the street and the floor above sends down. We do not use the same approach on all four, and any company that tells you they do is describing a schedule, not a method.

One more thing that is genuinely local. A lot of homes here back onto the park, which means pollen in April and May and leaf grit in October, both of which come in on shoes and settle on the first horizontal surface they find. The Prospect Park Alliance publishes what is in bloom and when, and we genuinely use it to warn recurring clients that the next two visits will need extra time on sills and entry floors. Ask us about house cleaning service in Park Slope and that is the level of detail you get on the call.

Park Slope · one-time deep clean

I was panicking because my in-laws were arriving the next morning and my apartment was a disaster zone. Green Hands completely transformed the space, making it spotless and welcoming for their first visit. I can't thank them enough for taking all that stress off my shoulders!

South Slope · move-out clean

Moving out of our South Slope walk-up was chaotic, and I was worried we wouldn't get our security deposit back due to the grime. The team did an incredible end-of-lease clean that was beyond thorough, leaving the place looking better than when we moved in. I'll definitely be using Green Hands Cleaning Service for our new place.

Park Slope · new-parent deep clean

As a new mom preparing for my baby's homecoming, I needed a deep "nesting" clean but was too exhausted to do it myself. Green Hands used gentle but effective products to scrub every corner, creating a perfectly safe and serene nursery. It was such a relief to come home to a clean house with a newborn.

How it works

Four steps, one flat price.

From the pile you have been walking past since March to a home you are glad to open the door on.

  1. 01

    The mess is winning

Work ran long, the weekend went to soccer at the Parade Ground, and now the kitchen and both bathrooms are asking for a Saturday you genuinely do not have.

  2. 02

    You tell us the home

Floor-through or garden level, how many bathrooms, and how long it has been. Sixty seconds online or one phone call, and a flat quote appears before anyone is booked.

  3. 03

    We work the checklist

A screened, trained cleaner arrives with everything needed and works top to bottom through the written list, so nothing gets skipped or improvised on the day.

  4. 04

You walk into a spotless home

Floors done, sills done, radiators done, everything back where it belongs. Nothing left on your list except deciding what to do with the evening.

Why people stay with us

A written checklist, followed room by room, every single visit.

Your home is kept on one route with notes attached to it, so whoever arrives already knows the buzzer is broken and that the parlour floor gets a barely-damp mop. That is why the standard does not drift from one visit to the next.

  • Background-checked cleaners. Every cleaner is screened and trained on our checklist before entering a home.
  • Flat quote up front. Priced by home size and scope, not by the hour, so the number does not move on the day.
  • 24-hour re-clean. Tell us within a day and we come back and fix it at no charge, no argument.
  • Products included. We bring the cleaning products, sprays and cloths, fragrance-free on request. We ask that your vacuum and mop stay in your home.

    Maid Service

The standard clean plus everything that piles up between visits. This is the one families on the north slope book when both parents work and nobody has a spare hour on a Sunday.

    • Dishes done, laundry run, linens and towels swapped
    • Clutter put back where it lives, not shuffled sideways

    Standard Basic Cleaning

The checklist and nothing more, priced by home size. A studio or a one bedroom near the Union Street stop runs two to three hours with one cleaner. A three bedroom floor-through runs longer, and we tell you that before you book, not after.

    • Kitchen and bathrooms fully reset
    • Dusted, vacuumed and mopped throughout

    Residential Cleaning

Row houses, limestones, co-ops and the converted two-families off Eighth Avenue. Stairs collect more dust than any other surface in a brownstone, so treads, risers and the banister get done every visit, not when somebody remembers.

The checklist

What is included in a visit.

Every visit works through the same checklist, in the same order. We go top to bottom so nothing we knock loose lands on a surface we already finished, which matters more in a brownstone than almost anywhere else, because ceiling mouldings and picture rails hold years of dust that a room-by-room cleaner sends straight down onto a floor they just mopped. Deep and move-out cleans are the standard list plus the items below them, not a seperate list.

01

Standard cleaning

The recurring visit. Every item, every time.

  • Cobwebs removed
  • Window sills
  • Dusted lamps and lampshades
  • Furniture dusted, polished and/or vacuumed
  • Top of refrigerator
  • Outside of appliances cleaned
  • Inside of microwave cleaned
  • Stove-top and back-splashes washed
  • All sinks scrubbed and disinfected
  • Mirror windexed
  • Tub/shower and tiles cleaned
  • All bathroom counters and fixtures cleaned
  • Wastebaskets emptied
  • Beds made (master and one additional bed)
  • Stairs vacuumed and wood dusted
  • Floors vacuumed and/or mopped
  • All carpeted areas vacuumed

02

Deep clean

Everything in the standard clean, plus:

  • Inside of refrigerator cleaned
  • Inside the oven cleaned
  • Baseboards washed and/or wiped (reachable without moving furniture)
  • Stove-top and drip pans scrubbed
  • All cabinet fronts cleaned
  • All doors wiped down

03

Move in / move out

Everything in the standard and deep clean, plus:

  • Inside of kitchen cabinets (if they are empty)
  • Inside of the closets (if they are empty)

Cleaning products, sprays and cloths all come with us. For hygiene reasons we do not carry vacuums and mops between homes, so we ask that yours are available on the day. If you want fragrance-free or pet-safe products, say so when you book and that is what we bring, at no extra charge.

The four things we add for a Park Slope home

Radiator fins get brushed dry before anything wet happens in the room. Sash windows get the track and the lower channel done, because that is where the street grit collects and where it blows back in from every spring. Original wood floors get a barely-damp mop and never a bucket, since standing water is what lifts an old finish and cups a board. And in a garden apartment we always start at the ceiling line and the top of the door frames, because whatever is up there is coming down whether you clean it or not.

If you are curious what actually goes in the bin at the end, Brooklyn's recycling rules are stricter than most people realise, and the Department of Sanitation's recycling guide is the quickest way to check before your next set-out night. We follow whatever your building does.

Every service, explained.

approach

We're rethinking home cleaning. One written checklist, one price you agreed to before the door opened.

A Park Slope apartment is not a small house. The radiator bakes dust on all winter. The bathroom of a garden-level unit has no window, so it holds moisture and it grows mildew in the grout faster than anywhere upstairs. One hall closet is doing the work of four. We built our checklist around those specifics rather than a generic room list, and we keep notes on your home so nothing has to be re-explained on visit two.

Our standard

park slope brooklyn eco friendly cleaning green hands cleaning services
park slope brooklyn studio apartment cleaning green hands cleaning services

apartments

Apartment Cleaning in a pre-war walk-up and in a Fourth Avenue tower are two different jobs.

In a pre-war building off Fifth or Sixth Avenue, plaster walls shed a chalky dust that settles on picture frames and sill tops, the radiators bake it on every winter, and the sash windows let street grit into the lower channel. In a newer tower on Fourth the problem is the opposite: sealed glass, HVAC vents holding dust, and floor-to-ceiling windows that show every mark from three feet away. We clean both, and we do not use the same approach on both.

Ask about apartment cleaning in Park Slope, or if you are just over the line, apartment cleaning across Brooklyn. If you want a rough number before you call, our guide to apartment cleaning costs in New York City breaks it down by size.

deep clean

Deep Cleaning is the full reset. Everything a standard visit leaves for twice a year.

The standard checklist, then the rest: inside the oven, inside the fridge, grout scrubbed by hand, baseboards and door frames wiped, light fixtures and vents, window sills and tracks, blinds, radiator fins, and behind and under furniture we can safely move.

Most apartments here need one every six months. Make it every four if you cook most nights, if you have a radiator under a window, or if you are in a garden or ground-floor unit facing the street, because those three things are what drive a deep clean sooner than the calendar does. Book it before guests arrive rather than after, and before you list, not the week of the open house. Our guide to how often you should deep clean goes further into the timing.

move in / move out

Move in and Move out Cleaning , done to what a landlord looks at. Which is not what you look at.

Empty cabinets and drawers wiped inside. Closet shelves and rods. Inside the oven and fridge. The gap beside the stove where things fall. Window tracks. Scuffs on the walls where furniture sat for four years. Move-in is the same list with a different reason: the last tenants cleaner had twenty minutes and a super watching the clock.

A clean apartment and a dated photo set is how you win the deposit argument, and ordinary wear and tear is not something a landlord can deduct for. Book seven or more days ahead and code RESET30 takes $30 off. See move in and move out cleaning in Park Slope or work through our NYC move out cleaning checklist first.

recurring

Recurring Cleaning is where the price drops and the apartment stays clean. Every visit, not just the first.

Weekly takes 25% off every visit, bi-weekly 15%, monthly 10%, for as long as you stay on the plan. Bi-weekly is the right answer for most one and two bedroom apartments on these blocks. Weekly makes sense with kids, a dog, or a household where someone cooks every night. Monthly works for a quiet studio, with a deep clean twice a year on top of it.

Reschedule or skip free up to 24 hours ahead, because everyone has a week that falls apart. See custom cleaning plans, and if you want your same slot held on a Tuesday morning, say so and we hold it.

eco & pet-friendly

Fragrance-free on request, at no extra charge. It matters in a windowless bathroom.

Households with cats, dogs, birds or small kids get the pet-safe set by default once they tell us. One rule we never break, and neither should you: never mix bleach with ammonia or with any acidic cleaner. It produces a toxic gas, and in a windowless garden-apartment bathroom with the door shut that is genuinely dangerous, not a theoretical warning on a label.

If anyone in the home has asthma, and in a neighborhood this close to the Prospect Expressway a lot of households do, the American Lung Association's indoor air guidance is worth ten minutes of your time. See eco-friendly cleaning and pet-friendly cleaning.

Questions

Before you book.

The ten things Park Slope callers ask us most, answered in full. Nothing to click open.

Who actually is the best cleaning service in Park Slope?

The honest answer is that it depends what you need, and any company that says otherwise is selling. If you want a recurring team that holds the same slot and keeps notes on your home, that is what we are built for and it is why most of our Park Slope clients have been with us for years. If you need a one-off scrub at 8am tomorrow, call two or three places, including us, and take whoever can genuinely get there. What you should compare is not the hourly rate. It is whether the quote is flat, whether the cleaners are screened and insured, and whether there is a written re-clean policy you can hold them to.

What does a house cleaning in Park Slope cost?

We quote flat by home size and scope, not by the hour, so the number you agree to is the number you pay. A studio or a one bedroom is at the lower end, a three bedroom floor-through with two bathrooms sits higher, and a deep clean or a move-out runs above a standard visit because the list is longer. Recurring knocks 10% to 25% off every single visit. First-time clients also save 10% with code FIRST10. You get the exact figure before anyone is booked, and it does not move on the day.

Do I need to be home during the clean?

No. Most clients give us entry instructions or leave a key with the super and go about their day. Tell us how you would like us to get in when you book, and if your building requires the front desk to be notified, tell us that too and we will call ahead.

Do you bring your own supplies?

Yes for products. Sprays, solutions, cloths, paper towels and sponges all come with us and are included in the price.

We do not transport vacuums and mops between homes, because that is how a company spreads bacteria and, occasionally, bedbugs from one apartment to the next. So we ask that you provide your own vacuum, mop and toilet brush if the job needs them. If you would rather not, we are happy to bring a Swiffer mop with disposable wet pads instead, just give us a heads-up when you book.

Who will be cleaning my home?

A screened, trained cleaner from our own team, not a subcontractor we found this morning. We keep notes on your home, so whoever arrives already knows how you like it done and works the same written checklist. On a recurring plan we hold the same person for your slot wherever the schedule allows.

What if something is missed?

Tell us within 24 hours and we come back and re-clean the area at no charge. No form, no argument, no asking you to prove it. You can send a photo if that is easier but you do not have to.

How do the recurring discounts work?

Weekly takes 25% off every visit, bi-weekly 15%, monthly 10%, applied automatically for as long as you stay on the plan. There is no contract and no cancellation fee, and you can pause, skip or change the rhythm whenever you like. Most people here land on bi-weekly and stay there.

Can you clean a brownstone with original floors?

Yes, and this is worth saying clearly because alot of damage in Park Slope houses is done by well-meaning cleaning. Old parquet and wide-plank pine get a barely-damp microfibre mop and never a bucket. Standing water is what lifts a finish and cups a board, and once a board cups you are into a sander, not a cloth. Original newels, banisters and mouldings get dusted by hand, dry, before anything wet happens in the room.

Which parts of Park Slope do you cover?

All of it, from Flatbush Avenue down to Prospect Avenue and from Fourth Avenue up to Prospect Park West, plus South Slope, Windsor Terrace, Gowanus, Prospect Heights, Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill. If you are just outside that line, ask anyway. We are usually already on the block.

How do I pay, and when do I recieve the receipt?

Card on file, charged after the visit, and the receipt lands in your inbox the same evening. No deposit is taken up front, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before your slot. If you need an invoice for a landlord, a broker or a building, say so and we will send one with the address and the date on it.

Where we clean

Park Slope, and everywhere it touches.

We run a Brooklyn route most weekdays, so Park Slope, South Slope, Gowanus and Prospect Heights get the widest choice of times. Everything else in the borough we cover too, just with a little less flexibility on the hour.

What changes block by block

Above Seventh Avenue, toward Prospect Park West and the Historic District, you are mostly in row houses with original detail and stairs. The work there is dust management: mouldings, picture rails, newels, treads, and window reveals deep enough to hold a season's worth of grit. Between Fifth and Seventh you get the walk-ups, which means radiators, painted sashes, and galley kitchens where every surface is within arm's reach of the stove and shows it. Below Fifth toward Fourth Avenue and Gowanus, the newer buildings bring vents, sealed glass and a lot of glossy surfaces that show water spots if you do not dry them.

Season matters here more than people expect. Spring puts a fine yellow pollen on every sill within four blocks of the park, and it comes back within a week no matter how well you clean, so we plan for it instead of pretending. October does the same thing with leaf grit tracked in on shoes. Winter is the radiators, they run hot in these buildings and they bake dust onto the fins until the whole room smells faintly of it. Summer is the the humidity in windowless bathrooms, which is why grout in a garden apartment needs attention twice as often as grout on a top floor.

We know the buildings around Grand Army Plaza, the co-ops off Bartel-Pritchard Square, the walk-ups near the Ninth Street stop, and the two-families that back onto the Old Stone House. If your building has a service entrance rule, a freight elevator window, or a super who needs 24 hours notice, tell us once and it goes in the notes for good. See everywhere we work in Brooklyn, or read our round-up of the best cleaning services in Williamsburg if you are comparing across the borough.
